Yeah, I agree with you on that, aside from commercial truck drivers.
When I went to truck-driving school a couple years ago, double-clutching was
the first thing they taught us. The International tractors owned by the school
had Eaton-Fuller 10-speed trannys with no synchros. They told us that the DMV
testers expected us to double-clutch all of our shifts; for whatever reason,
they didn't want to see us floating the gears (not that I could, anyway!).

I used to downshift into first while pulling my first deuce into a very
cramped spot in the hangar where it used to live. At first, I'd downshift from
2 high to 2 low, but once I learned to double-clutch I found it to be a lot
easier to shift from 2 high to 1 high than to bend over to push the transfer
case shifter down. Once you've learned to be able to double-clutch every shift
on a crash-box, shifting into first on a deuce is no big deal!
