Twisted or not, this is my appraoch to deciding which gear oil to use. The
M35 is an engineering marvel. The interchageability engineered into the truck
could never be accomplished by todays techwizard engineers. The truck has
existed for over 50 years in military use using GL-1 lubrication. I figure with
that track record, who am I to make a decision contrary to the engineers
responsible for the truck to begin with. I buy my GL-1 at Wallyworld for $20.95 for a
35# (5 gallon) bucket. The military had a strick lube policy and I try to
follow it. I also make sure each truck gets driven at least a few miles a week.
Actually I drive both my deuces almost daily and a thorough warm up is almost
guaranteed. I'm not saying that the newer lubricants aren't any good, I'm just
folllowing the orders that made the trucks last as long as they did.
