Jim Gilmore, and list members...
Thanks for the information Jim. I had assumed the Production Order numbers were Ford numbers. I do appreciate the clarification.
Primarily I was hoping to find the blocks of USA serial numbers allocated to the M8 and M20 production. I have a database of about 70 vehicles. Data I have recorded includes serial numbers, hull numbers, and Ordnance numbers where known. I had hoped to find a relation to the various
"Production Order" numbers and the USA serial numbers. I would also be interested in the monthly production numbers as related to serial numbers.
I also record various major production change details and hope to match this up with a time line of sorts. In a previous post to this list (11/1999), a count of production changes to the M8 (GAK) and M20 (GBK) was said to be 1,512 and 499 respectively. Although I would find this
interesting, for my purpose only the major changes, i.e. the change from the old style exhaust to the new style, or from the side mine racks to the side sponson storage boxes, etc., are of significant importance.
One goal is to provide a reference to owners of M8's and M20's seeking their approximate USA serial numbers. Ultimately, I would like to develop restoration guidelines for these vehicles, perhaps publishing this online.
I would like to encourage owners (as well as non owners) of M8's and M20's on this list to contact me with questions regarding these vehicles. I have a survey questionnaire I can send to anyone wishing to submit information on a vehicle (theirs or one on display).
Thanks. Claude.
