They have to name them..... To continue the tradition. I'd like to see the
little guys get the credit they deserve for design and manufacturing them.

Subject: Re: [MV] Gun Trucks in Iraq
Hi Tom
A close friend is stationed in Iraq at the former Tikrit Air Force Base
which is now Div HQ for the 4th ID. He is with the 1058th
Transportation Co from Massachusetts which was activated last Feb and is
now part of the 180th Trans Bn/4 ID. They have been having problems
with convoy protection as we all know. They have had MP armored humvees
some times go with the convoys but there are not enough MPs to go
around. The German Army has sent in MPs to help in the Baghdad area
which were moved up from Kuwait by the 1058. Anyway they received
orders from above to send in 15 M923 5 tons which were converted
locally by the maintenance guys to gun trucks in the old hangars which
are now shops. I dont think they are finished with all of them yet.
The 4 ID used them in Vietnam, so I guess they are doing it again now
in Iraq. It is working well against small arms and is giving some
survivablility to the crew against RPG's.
