200-250m, good angle, with AP 8mm ammo only. Standard 8mm, like found
with a typical soldier's Mauser, would not penetrate. AP was generally
only issued to HMG teams (MG34 or MG42), but a Squad's LMG might have had
some AP kicking around.
Keep in mind that 200m was also the start of the danger zone with regards
to German infantry. Panzerschrecks could hit and kill just about
anything at that range. Range for Panzerfaust (depending on type used)
was generally under 100m.
My point is that under 200m a typical US HT had a lot of things to worry
about, some of which not even several inches of armor could stop. Sound
like today's APCs? You betcha :-)
