Steve,
It's been my experience that a little torch-splash
onto aluminum isn't a concern. Aluminum conducts
heat so good, that it just spreads it out.
I'm assuming we're talking about a thick casting
here.
I'd worry more about any cast-iron right in the
flame-path. CI has a tendency to "blow away".
I.e. a shower of glowing particles.... If you've
ever tried to repair an exhaust manifold, you'll
know what I mean...
