Good idea to ride the train. I have ridden on it
twice. It is quite an experience.
Couple the miles with the extreme pavement heat in
some areas, and overall wear was not good.
The fronts were about 65% when I left. Now they are
just about junk. They chopped badly on the outsides
of their tread profile. This seams to be a common
issue with these trucks. My theory is that the 8-ply
bias tires roll under when turning causing this uneven
wear.
As far as doing things differently. I can't think of
too much, but I'll have those freewheeling hubs thats
for sure. I'm thinking super singles for next time
with some radial Michelins.
As soon as I can sort through all the pictures, I'll
post a few.

ps Just a tidbit of advice, I mounted a 5 gal. water
cooler on the tongue of the trailer for easy access.
The two of us drank 2.5 gals of water in 33 hours, on
the way back. The slower speed, and heat can really
dehydrate a person quick. Belvieve or not when it
gets really hot, like 95 or more, it is cooler to roll
up the windows. The hot air just seems to cook you
otherwise, especially your eyes.
