Well fellow MV'ers......after many trials and tribulations, the HMMWV is now
on the road. !! The carburetor had to be "overhauled"....totally removed and
dis-assembled..and a total "trick" kit put in it.
So...from a base purchase price of $3500 for the 454 ..which came with a
turbo 400..and on a rolling Suburban chassis... The cost to rebuild the
transmission was just under $1000..and the cost to rebuild the Holley double
pumper was just about $100....hmmmmm...way too much for repairs.!! And to
think that some guys think surplus stuff is going to be just fine..and work
like it is supposed to work.. Geeee...wouldn't it be nice to live in a world
like that..!
The HMMWV will be at the Castle Rock, Colorado MV Meet this week-end. It
is an unreal vehicle...looks stock...until the hood is opened..and until it
is started...and leaves all the other vehicles in the dust..!
What to do next is the big question.?? Two more weeks before I'll have time
to think about it. The "dog house" will not fit...way too much motor. It
will have to be cut open and an extension added onto it. They are
fiberglass- so fabricating a conversion will not be a problem..
Anyone know which wire feeds the gauges.??? I can not get any of the gauges
to work. The vehicle is still 24 volt..
