Let me offer a bit of insight from the automotive aftermarket. When an item is 'rebuilt' it is only repaired. That is to say that only was was broken, damaged, non-functioning is repaired. 'Remanufactured' on the other hand is when all components that can fail are replaced. Here's a simple example, the difference between a rebuilt and reman'd starter is a rebuilt is only repaired from what was wrong and keeping the unit from functioning. Rebuilt starters on the other hand start with only the 'core' and all brushes, windings, etc are replaced...whether they need it or not. Now, in the example of the radiator, a 'rebuilt' radiator could involve only cleaning...if what was wrong with it was plugged, etc. On the other hand, an 'remanufactured' or 'RECORED' radiator would have been disassembled, tanks cleaned and the core replaced.
When it comes to the debate of rebuilt and reman'd, many operations will lead you to believe that they're 'rebuilt' units are 'as good as new,' etc. However, I refuse to sell any products that are not reman'd.
