Hello again all,
I would like to make an addition to my last post. A much shorter one this
time though. <grin>
The terms rebuild and recondition that I have just read from post that were
made on the group are correct from my experience with companies that are
reconditioning and rebuilding products/parts. However, I stand by the
comments about the terms being interchangable in many shops in different
areas. The shop that I worked in did what you clarify in the rebuild and
reconditon processes. However, we called all of the work rebuilding.
Depending on what the customer wanted, either the bad parts were replaced or
repaired, or all the parts were replaced. The chain of approximately 15
stores and 4 or 5 shops, I don't recall how many now, considered only one
term to cover the process and charged by how much labor and parts were used.
Some of our local competition did exactly the same type of work and called
what they were doing remanufacturing and some reconditioned at their shops.
The parts that we used were only new ones. I am not aware of using
reconditioned, rebuilt or remanufactured "parts" in the engines. The stores
did sell auto parts also and I am not able to recall if they sold any "used"
parts no matter what the process as I was not involved in the sales work.
However, as for the radiator issue, "plugging leaks" is more than pouring
liquid as the original post stated. "Plugging leaks" and other repairs as
needed is more in line with rebuilding, remanufacturing or reconditioning as
I understand the terms.
