I think you are about half right Steve, one of the few
letures I remember from a History prof in college was
on the subject of why the 45 was developed. He stated
that these Phillipino natives would allow themselves
to be staked down in the morning with a watered down
rope or leather strap tied around their testicles. As
the sun rose the strap would contract and in effect
short circuit their neverous system. There would be a
whole lot of screaming and hollowing until about noon
time when the screaming would stop. Then these guys
would come charging down the hill side screaming,
yelling and filling no pain. I guess it took to many
hits from the rifles and pistals of the day so they
needed the 45 to have a chance of bringing them down
before they reached our troops. There may have been
some drugs involved as well but I didn't recall the
Prof. saying anything about.
