Hi Mel & List ,
Take out the tank , and in the lowest part drill a 1/2
" hole , Pour out the contents an fit a 3/8" NPT boss with a square headed
plug . In siteing the boss check that you can get at it next time without
removing the tank . Why tanks are made without a drain I know not .
To fit the boss first clean the area round the hole , bung up filler hole
with rag and fill the tank FULL with water , arranging the tank so that only
a very small pocket of air is in the area that will be heated . It
is now safe to braze or hard solder the boss into
the tank . If the fuel tank is out it is always worth carrying out this
simple modification .
MOST IMPORTANT
For gasoline tanks wash out 2 or 3 times with VERY hot water , then leave an
airline blow gun blowing into the tank for a while before filling with water
as above .
The above tecnique can also be used to repair tanks that have a leak.
Good Luck Noel
