There are lots of substances that many of us once took for granted that
are no longer available practically under penalty of death. Iodine, once
used commonly as a supplement to horse and livestock feed is now
considered a "controlled substance" however, nitric acid is still (for the
time being) available by the drum.
Not terribly long ago a pair of elderly ladies were jailed, and thier feed
store was confiscated for refusing to limit and track thier iodine sales.
The pair flatly refused to comply with the regulations and burden many
local farmers who were lifetime customers with excessive paperwork.
And as for the granola state... I've lived here all my life. I shoot guns,
I like cars with big engines, red meat that is somewhat cooked. I don't
know if I'm out of touch with my state, or my state is out of touch with
me. Either way... it seems fundamentally that california really needs to
be split in two... let the pinkos have the north, they can just boil in
that cauldren of liberal cooze (the bay area) and leave the south be. It
happens that san francisco has an abhorently high population density,
which in turn gives it enormous political sway. Where as the mostly
suburban south usually gets left to foot the bill for northern social
programs.
I'm actually looking at moving out of state. Maybe you all could make some
recommendations. The things I like about california: Large tracts of open
BLM land to drive around off road in, shoot guns, be obnoxious. Oh yea,
and it gets hot here, but cools off before I get sick of it.
Things I don't like: oppressive gun laws, high fuel costs, high cost of
living, piss poor job market.
I like texas, but there's not a lot of places to run wild. I like arizona,
but no job market.
Appreciate any advise on this one...
