The new width standard for the US (in order to match the Canadian law) is
now 102 inches. (8.5 feet) exclusive of safety devices. (mirrors, etc). The
new tour buses are now 102 instead of 96, giving each passenger a huge
increase in seating width of 1.5 inches.
A piece of fire apparatus is not considered a motor vehicle in NY State.
Therefore, no inspection and no driver's license requirement, although- any
prudent Board of Fire Commissioners would certainly require that its drivers
be licensed.
