Hi all, I recently posted about radiator hoses, and mentioned that I was
waiting a long time (almost eight months) for antique plates. Thanks to all
who answered. There were as many comments about the tags as the hoses. So
for your entertainment, here is the story.
In March I had the opportunity to purchase a deuce, neglected for several
years but running. In Pa. standard plates would be $376/year, but antique
plates $75/ one time fee. With antique tags, vehicle could not be used for
commercial purposes, could be driven one day a week, and had to be
"maintained or restored to condition which conforms with manufacturers
specification and appearance." The latter is the problem.
I sent the original application with pictures as purchased. It did look a
bit rough. Five weeks later I received a rejection, no specific reason. By
this time it was cleaned up somewhat, with a new top. So I took more
pictures and reapplied. In about two weeks I got another rejection,
handwritten note "trk has rust."
So I set out to find a cheap painter. Found a local guy, currently
unemployed, who had a good reputation. He quoted a VERY good price. Shortly
after this, he broke his right hand.
Now it is late September, truck is almost done. I had planned on light
green, the painter asked if I wanted it camo, again quoted a very good
price. So I said "Go for it."
Only problem now- the camo is more "hillbilly camo" than U S issue camo. But
at least the rust was gone, so I took more pictures and reapplied. After not
hearing anything for a month, I called. They either lost the application, or
lost proof that the fee and sales tax was paid. So I contacted our state
representative's office, they said to send them copies of everything, as
well as a notarized letter explaining everything. That was about two and a
half weeks ago.
If it is rejected again I might post a deuce for sale cheap!!!!!!
Hope someone got a chuckle out of this.....God bless.......Gene
