Hi Jim,
There is a relationship between amount of fuel used and horsepower output.
You convert the diesel into BTU's and go from there. This was mentioned in
an article (page 63) in MVM March/April of 1999. Based on this, since my
multifuel uses about 1 gallon/hr in idle, the horsepower developed should be
about 18 hp.
Remember that the engine doesn't like to idle for long periods of time, it
never reaches operating temperature and valves etc get fouled.
I could operate my hydraulic knuckleboom crane with the engine in idle for
light loads if I wanted to, so the power is there.
