Hm. I missed the 'boxes' bit. I've never seen battery 'boxes' per se fitted
to any CUCV I've ever come across.
Regarding CUCVs and batteries in general, one thing I'm doing as part of the
regular vehicle maintenance is rotating the batteries from front to back
once a year in an effort to equalize the wear. Not sure it's necessary, but
in theory, I figure the grounded battery gets most of the demands of daily
driving, where the second one in series gets exercise only on start and
during glow plug and radio ops. Sounds good to me anyway.
Some of the Group 31s come in two flavours as well: ~625 CCA, and ~925 CCA.
I've always gone with the heavier duty battery as a matter of course, but
haven't really done any comparison tests to see if it's necessary or not.
The civvy-side 6.2 and 6.5 L pickups and Blazers come with two smaller 625
CCA "Delco" type batteries rigged in parallel - one either side of the
truck - but I've also seen 6.2 diesel vans equipped with but a single 625
CCA "Delco" battery on the driver's side like their gas-powered brethren.
