Subject: [MV] Normandy -vehicles wanted for reneactment
Folks, I am posting this for a friend, if anyone is interested please
contact Bob direct.
Normandy 2004
I am part of a Parachute re-enactment group called Pathfinder,
incorporating the UK Round Parachute Association. On Saturday 6th June
we will be dropping from Dakota(s), onto Ranville, where 7th Bn Para
Regt landed, then re-enforced the Ox & Bucks on the Pegasus Bridge. We
will be wearing WW2 uniforms & equipment, using military parachutes.
In addition, it is planned to complete the operation by re-tracing the
Commando march from the beach head to Pegasus Bridge. We want
re-enactors groups and vehicles (especially jeeps) to take part in the
march. If you are going to Normandy, and wish to take part in this
march, contact Bob Ellis on 01303 264972 (or rhb.ellis@ukonline.co.uk).
The idea is to arrive at the bridge, and link up with the Ox & Bucks,
and Pathfinder, re-enactors later in the afternoon. Order of march will
be Commando vehicles and men (is there a Commando Piper out there?),
followed by Parachute vehicles and men, then other units.
In order to cover admin costs (special passes to enter necessary areas,
commemorative certificates and DZ costs, etc.), a £10 registration fee
will be asked of each vehicle or group of 8 men (each member of
Pathfinder could be paying £200 to jump!). This may sound a bit of a
cheek to ask, but beware, all key areas will be extremely busy on that
weekend, and it is likely that individual access to these areas will be
difficult, if not impossible, for unregistered vehicles. We are
negotiating with local authorities to organize this march, and get the
necessary clearances.
Please express your initial interest, by either of the above contact
numbers, giving details of vehicle markings, unit depicted, etc.
I look forward to hearing from you.
