Moving is an option. In NH we seem to have more overall freedoms.
A couple years ago I helped get a law passed here that allows antique
vehicle owners to have up to 5 'parts vehicles' on their property.
The regular junk car law allows only one....

BTW: 20,000 Libertarians are suppose to be moving to NH as the best
place to have freedoms as I understand it.

This is the most sensible post I've read on this issue, remember this is
the Land of the Free which means that if the majority of the towns
people want these restrictions that means this is how they want their
town. I once lived in the city limits, and most of it's residents don't
like tanks and big trucks in their neighborhoods (that's why they live
in the city) so I moved to the country side where I have room to drive,
shoot, piss, and holler all I want. My neighbors and I live there
because that's how we like to live, so we band together to keep our area
from being zoned with these type restrictions.

Sometimes you have to Pursue the latter in another area.

Hi
You are right on the money with your description of small town politics.
In the end you will not win against them. You will either have to
conform to what the majority of the townies want, or move somewhere
else, or the battle will consume your life. It will take a large toll
on you and your family before it is through in many ways that you do not
see right now most likely.
Unless all the other so called citizens of your fine little town move
away and leave you alone you will be consumed and ruined. And we all
know they aren't going. You need to move to a town without this
restrictive zoning or restrict your MV hobby to smaller vehicles that
are OK with zoning. Plus you have to consider how much damage you have
already sustained as far as your wife and kids being able to carry on
their lives there. Its they that you have to think of. Believe me, I
have seen this over and over with newcomers coming into town and having
their lives ruined when they go up against the old townie establishment.
They will come after you, and your family once they focus on you. Tax
assessments, building permits, kids school grades, kids sports, you name
it. The town I live in is just the same if not worse, no, its way worse
that what you are facing.
I know you are pissed off but think long and hard about the big picture
and your course of action.

Thanks a lot for all your support everyone. I don't need any ass kicking
at this time. (good idea though) I will probably have to go the
sensible route and get involved in my local government. Not sure how to
do that yet? How does someone get on a local Zoning board anyway? I
think the council members are elected. They are usually local business
owners, or people whose family has lived here for generations. I just
moved here about 4 years ago, so I am probably considered an "outsider"
I don't want to cause too much trouble and my kids will be starting
school here in a couple of years, that could make it pretty tough on
them. I grew up near a small town in Ohio, and I know how a small town
can be an almost "closed community". So I think advice on how small town
gov. works will probably be the most useful.
Thanks again,
Bill
