Relays in a dirty, vibrating truck/trailer environment will not be reliable.
Electronics (you've heard of them?) are the way to go for an elegant,
reliable solution that will work under all conditions, whether for "combat,
work or play." (sm)

I am about to start marketing an electronic black box that will plug into
your 24-volt trailer connector, and give you a place to plug in a standard
civvy trailer harness. It will be very well built, weather-proof, have that
military look, and, of course, it will be very expensive. But who said this
was a poor man's hobby? Stay tuned.
