Thanks to all for the info on Brush Gurads.

I purchased a book from Amazon.com that is titled "War Machines N 7",
Verlinden Publications. It shows M998's in Germany with the tubular guards
as well as the angle iron type. The tubular one is black and the angle iron
matches the camo coloring of the vehicle.
