Not to down Capt. Kangaroo, but, the story is false
according to this:

Keeshan did join the USMC Reserves but in 1945 prior
to his 18th. birthday and did not see action.

I watched him as a kid, so, I don't take away anything
from his accomplishments.

Just that myths get started and hang around and one
needs to take things off the internet with a grain of
salt.
