It makes up the space between the SAE #2 Engine bellhousing and the #3 transmission bellhousing. The 5-ton Multifuel engine uses the same bellhousing as the duece but the larger trans on the 5-ton has a #2 bell so doesn't need the 'adapter'. Robert Anderson 1/30
