Jim,

I couldn't agree with you more about the use of cable ties.

But, as with anything else, it depends on how they are installed as well as
the color choice.

And if the purpose is to get the vehicle through state inspection, my
trailer was inspected this way, until you have the time to either make a
better mounting system or buy one from someone else than I say go for it.

I also intend to come up with better mounting systems for my M35A2, M38A1
and M105A2 for appearance. But for now and to get a job done, the cable
ties worked out very well, are very inexpensive and easy to use. By
attaching them so that only a very small part is showing, just enough to go
around the outside edge of the tag and through the hole the ties are less
obvious than just about any other system other than a bolt painted the same
color as the tag.

I put the ties on my trailer quickly and rushed then neglected to do
anything about them as it sits in the yard waiting for spring. They are
white with some of the ends clearly visible and it is quite tacky. The only
comments about the trailer during inspection were about the lack of mud
flaps. Since the trailer sits most of the time and I can put some on
temperarily when it does go somewhere, they allowed it to go through.

The M35 and M38A1 are both historic vehicles and not required to be
inspected but the truck was checked at a truck weigh scale and was looked
over pretty well but not as an inspection just as a curiosity and nobody
said a word about the tags.

The tags that I put on the M35 were done with some finesse. The tags are
green which almost matches the color of the truck and white at the edge of
the tags which are also white. This was done by using several cable ties
for each tag hole. The part of the tie that is exposed is white to match
the tags. The part that would be visible from any other angle is green and
all of the ends of the cable ties are snipped off as close to the locking
device as possible with the locking device hidden behind the registration
plates.

I hope that this does not come out as argumentative. <grin>

I took your comments to be good natured ribbing and just wanted to clarify a
bit more to you what I was getting at.

Have a terrific day, whats left of it.

Bill K.

Also, nylon zip ties for attaching a license plate are pretty ghetto
if you ask me. I guess they're OK for getting a fix-it ticket signed
off. ;)
