CUCV Glow Plugs circuit

Hey Stu.

A few months ago you told me how to setup the Blazer with a switch for the glow
plugs. At the time I was hearing the clicking of the controller/relay like it
was a MG at times, and you could see the volt meter going back and forth. Since
I don't drive it much I didn't bother. But here comes snow and ice, and it is
the ideal vehicle for that, so I decided to do it. I took the wire that goes
from the solenoid to whatever it is behind the shield on the fire wall and then
to the 24V block off first, don't know why, just did (I disconnected the batt
first of course). When I let go of the wire I noticed that is was loose at the
other end. Tried to take the top bolt that holds the shield off, the thing just
spun. I took the four screws off and realized I just let loose of that part
behind the shield (is it some kind of a resistor?). I tried to pull it out but
not enough room. So I climbed inside the engine compartment to take a look.
That little screw they decided to use with that 10 gauge wire came loose. I
tightened it and put all the screws back together, started the engine and it was
quite. No clicking and clicking. Turned it off and on trying to make it click,
but other than the one click when it cuts off, I didn't hear a thing.

It was hell getting that little screw tight, without taking the part out. Took
almost two hours. Grinding down a wrench so that it was thin walled enough to
get on the nut on the back side, not to mention that they used a different size
nut. Well, everything is OK now :-)

I am going to do the switch thing though, and had a question. You said: "You
disconnect wires from controller on solenoid and hook 12v to manual button you
install on cab to trip solenoid and turn on glow plugs as long as you hold
button down". The solenoid has four wires, one thick wire at each end, and two
thin wires on the side. I am assuming that the thin wires are signaling the
solenoid to make a connection between the two end wires, am I right? So if I
just disconnect one of the thin wires and put the switch between it and the post
it came off of, wouldn't that do the trick?
