Another Internet surfing adventure ! These excavators are quite interesting. (Seems likely the engine is a Nissan) I found some more info:

Hanix are one of the largest manufacturers of Japanese designed mini excavators in Europe. Established in 1965, Hanix have over 35 years experience of designing equipment for the construction industry.

I can see how these machines would be an excellent learning tool in preparation for ownership of something heavy, ugly, tracked, and military. ;-)

If I were in need of information about parts for an Hanix Excavator, I'd take a look at the two sites I've listed. They should be of some assistance.

What I'm mainly interested in is the engine. Who makes it? Is there a
local parts supplier for it (In the US) In particular I need a new starter
for it. Is there something in place of OEM starter I can use? The machine
does NOT have a starter, it was removed before I got it.
The only parts supplier I can find is in the UK and he wants $900 USD for
it which I think is ridiculous. This is a 2 cyl .5 diesel engine.
