FWIW, the FMTV series trucks have a side mounted hydraulic winch with a
system of pulleys and fairlead rollers to guide the wire rope front or back
as needed.
The compact winch is on the right side on the frame behind the cab. Because
it's hydraulic, it also requires a pump and a 27 gallon tank for the fluid.
It seems that the only way to make something new these days is to make it
more complicated...
What happend to the old capstan winch? Was it too simple?
Bjorn
PS. Mike, great job on the video and the recovery operation! BB
