Hi Rick ,
The Lincoln is far to small for 1.6mm wire but your AC 225
machine has plenty of power , You are looking for a Rutile coated Austenitic
stainless steel rod suitable for hardenable high tensile steels .Composition
Cr 20% ,Ni9% , Mo3% Typical current for 2.5mm 50-70 A or 3.2mm 80-100A , BUT
you need at least 60 V {ocv } better at 80V and some preheat is advisable .
In the UK Armex 2 or Armoid 1are the rods to use but an AWS cross
reference looks like A5.22-80: E308 MoT-2
NOT easy rods to use and BEWARE of the tiny fragments of flying slag as it
cools { twice been to hospital to have it dug out with a needle }
If the work is to be painted and nolonger really needs to withstand shells
you could use the MIG , wind up the power and it should do it , the above
rods are not cheap ![though they are also good for repairing broken springs
Etc }
Hope this is helpful Noel
