Based on what I've read about welding aluminum (have NOT been there or done
that) here's the tricky part:
Actually, there are THREE tricky parts.
First, it has to be made really really clean.
Second, it is like a black hole for heat. You have to either pre-heat the
piece or hurl tons of amperage at it to get the puddle to melt.
Third, you don't know the puddle has melted until it falls onto the tip of
your boot. The reason is that, unlike steel, its appearance doesn't notably
change as it goes molten.
People who do it don't say it's hard to do. It's just different.
