Hi
This is a good example of why all the US Army Vehicles in Europe USAREUR
are required to have the NATO Delineator retro-reflective decals or
plates on the rear as well as amber flashing lights. They work very
well and are essential with the outlandish speeds that vehicles can
travel on the Autobahns. I have them on all my MV's and they are
something that is correct on many vehicles also. They are available from
3M which is the manufacturer. Unless that trucker was asleep that
accident would have been prevented.

Subject: [MV] me and my M35 took a hit from a semi today
Not too long ago someone posted the sad story about
two guys that got killed after getting rearended by a
semi truck. This story has been on my mind a lot
lately as I drive mine on the Interstate often.
Tonight around 7:30 I was headed westbound on I-94
(just south of Eau Claire, WI) with my M35 and was
rearended by a tractor trailer. Nobody was injured.
I was alone in the truck and the trucker is fine also.
The fact that everything turned out as good as it did
makes me very grateful. I was going about 50-52 mph
and looked in my mirror maybe 5 seconds before impact.
Of those 5 seconds it took a couple to process the
fact that he wasn't stopping. After that there wasn't
much to do except hold on. He hit me in the drivers
rear and pushed me for 2-3 seconds. I was at an angle
and on the shoulder before regaining control and
brought her to a stop safely and the other driver did
the same. The truck, a T-600 Kenworth, has a trashed
radiator. The hood also is smashed and was pushed
into the windshield. My truck is driveable with
tailights operational but tommorrow I will inspect it
thoroughly. I will keep everyone posted as to what
happens legally when I am able to disclose it.
As far as night driving on the Interstate, I will
rethink it completely. I suggest everyone else think
about it also. The worst part is the bad publicity
this provides for the rest of the MV'ers. The last
thing we need is another M151 fiasco with the M35's
etc. etc.
Counting my blessings
