Cleaning radiator tanks

I wanted to thank those who responded to my inquiry about cleaning up a M37
radiator. I followed the suggestions and used a pressure washer and had no
problems

My next question is about cleaning the old paint and stuff off of the tanks
and mounting brackets prior to painting.

Would it be ok to use a wire wheel to clean the old rust off? I am talking
about using in on only the top and bottom tanks not the radiator section
itself.
