Now I never got into the tool room at the big guys shop, but here at the motorpool we use the "medium" towbar to tow everything from 5 tons on DOWN.  All you have to do is change the shackles.  Those are the end pieces that attach to the bumper of what ever truck your towning.  Different ones for the "10 wheeled models" vice the 4 wheeled models.  BTW I just towed my Deuce home (and it runs now) with this medium bar and had no problems at all, 5 ton tractor was the tow'er.

The one you may have is for a LAV or bigger.  The new 7 1/2 tons have this massive one also.  I would say it weighs in at about 250 lbs easy, and that is just the bar piece!!!
