"No Escort Available" for GL preview

Please forgive me if this has been covered before. I haven't
participated in a GL auction since they started announcing that no
customer escorting is available for preview. What does this really
mean to a random civilian like me? I'd like to inspect some items that
are coming up for auction at Camp Pendleton. Will I be able to get
onto the base to inspect them?
