The formula for shear strength is :-
P = A x S. Where P is the total stress in pounds .
A is the cross sectional area in square
inches
S is the permisssible working stress in
Lb/sq "
NOTE . PWS for shear use 4/5 that of permissible stress in tension .
Wish I was really this clever BUT sadly not -- had to look it up in a book .
