5 ton front lockout hubs

What is involved with changing out the front hubs to the old military
lockouts? The mil job has some little levers that you flip over to
engage/disengage the axle. The sprag can supposedly be disengaged easily
by putting in a valve or solenoid valve in the air line that runs to the
tranny. As the story goes, the mil put a neutral position in the sprag
because being an airshift transfer case, they wanted to be able to
continue to drive the truck even if the air pump died. With no air, you
couldn't change the sprag direction and could conceivably be stuck in
reverse, without a default neutral position. This should allow the truck
to freewheel, up front. Lawdy lawdy, hope that improves the fuel
mileage! Jim
