Hi Sam,
Most temp reading devices are GAUGES not thermometers ,
therefore what is normal on your vehicle is the normal reading . ONLY if it
deviates from that should you watch more closely whats going on . Small
variations are to be expected , air temp , load , hills Etc only if it
climbs and keeps going up should one worry . For an acurate temp reading
attach a thermocouple to a suitable spot on the engine e.g. stat housing or
top hose , insulating with cloth will help the reading , and see what
happens .
IF the need to add water arises
, firstly pour cold water through the rad ,then having covered the cap with
a cloth ,VERY SLOWLY release the pressure . With the engine running slowly
pour water preferably warm , slowly into the rad . The water pump will mix
the cooler water rather than let a volume of cold water straight into the
block . This procedure may save the block from cracking , as one seldom has
the time to wait whilst it all cools down . SMALL leaks in a rad may be
sealed by topping up the rad with SLIGHTLY muddy water ------- yes it works
I`ve done it , and the rad lasted years .
