I was told by the state of Tennessee although I can't find the law to
prove it right now that here you can buy a J11 tag which is 80,000
pounds and drive anywhere you want to in the US. This used to be known
as a farm tag but you can now haul anything that you are not getting
paid to haul and you are not going to sell when you get there. If you go
over 5000 miles in a year you have to pay a highway use tax though. I am
sure other states have this also.
