"Loosely termed" are the bleeding instructions for
replacement of the box or pump or lines on a hydraulic
power steering system.
Jack up the truck and place on jack stands.
Wheels need to have 95% of the weight off of them.
The key needs to be in the ignition so the steering
wheel can be turned.
The engine is NOT running.
Fill reservoir with fluid...Not too full. Filler cap
remains off of pump & reservoir at this time.
With a bright light looking into the reservoir, have a
helper turn the wheels from stop to stop slowly.
Repeat this procedure until no air is coming out of
the return line in the reservoir.
This can take most of an hour so switch out and rest
when needed.
The idea is to have 98% of the air bled before you run
the engine. You can kill a pump with too much air
remaining in the system while running the engine.
Keep the fluid level up while bleeding..but don't over
service.
Good luck,
Jim
