Fast and dirty (and some what messy) way to check for cracked vacuum hose
that looks intact or a leaking carb to manifold gasket or intake manifold
gasket to head is to get TGB running (maybe with assistance of helper to
play pedal master) and then put the spray tube on the nozzle of a can of WD
40 or carb cleaner (CC is BAD on paint) and spray all the vacuum hoses and
gasket to metal interface surfaces slowly. A surge or miss MAY indicate a
leak. Respray any suspected leaking areas. If it does anything noticeable,
repeat sequence until you can discount it as an anomaly or a leak. Ditto for
a cracked intake manifold.
Gasket sealant is a must for reassembly to guard against this type of
problem.
