Air over hydraulic brake question.

Hi List,
    This question is directed towards vehicles like 5 Tons and deuces
that
have the standard air over hydraulic systems.

    Does anyone know if the air pressure going to the service line and
out to
a trailer, is linear with respect to brake pedal pressure?

ie: When you press on the pedal does the pressure change correspondingly
or is
it just on and off? When you release the pressure on the pedal what
happens
to the air in the system. ie: where is it vented from/to?
