Hope that helps. Congrats on finishing your Engine. That is my next
project. Although I am considering just buying a remanufactured Engine &
eliminating the time involved.

Subject: [MV] Aaron's M38A1 Started!!!
Yesterday, July 5th, was a day of celebration for me. (So was the 4th)...
For quite some time I had been working on an engine rebuild, but as that
came to completion, I decided that it was the time to bite the bullet and go
back to the military 24V system. So for the last few months I've been
putting in the electrical parts and slowly getting the wiring harness in
there. I spend the entire day off (yesterday) messing around with the
ignition system, and getting more of that wiring harness in.
To my surprise, when I cranked her over, she fired right up and came to a
fast, yet smooth idle! I'm sure the cheering could have been heard from
several houses either way down on my busy street. I killed the engine and
tried it again, and after a little cranking she fired right up a second
time. I didn't run her for more than 15 seconds at a time, which is probably
a good thing since I noticed about half a quart of oil on the garage floor
after I started her the second time. It appears that the oil hose that comes
out just next to the fuel pump and runs up to the oil filter has failed.
Anybody know the part number to that thing?
So know I have a few questions:
1) The jeep cranks over very slowly, but I'm told that this is normal
operation for 24V systems? To me it sounds like a 12V starter spinning right
before the battery dies. I was cleaning grounds and making sure all the
components have good clean connections, but it didn't speed up the cranking.
2) The oil pressure shot right up to 55 on the gauge. What are the normal
operational parameters for oil pressure on an M38A1? ...This is my first
vehicle with an oil pressure gauge! If it's too high, what could be the
problem/solution?
3) I'm worried that she might be running too hot. Possibly this is due to
the carburetor? The last civilian part in my jeep is the carb, which I
should have replaced with a military one within the next couple of months.
Thanks in advance for any help,
