On a wet and windy day 60 years to the day, (similar to how the weather was
when the Churchill tank was dedicated as a memorial!) the veterans marched
to the memorial - in front of the suprise guest HRH Prince Andrew , Earl of
Wessex who not only took the salute but inspected the vets and took time to
talk to them about what happened in the battle.
Fabulous day, amazing men these octogenarians who fought the bitter struggle
for Hill 112 and for the territory south of Caen in July 1944.
Each veteran was give a special medal by the local school children.
Many vets had their pictures taken in front of a nice jeep, in appropriatly
43rd Wessex Div markings.
I will be posting some pics in next day or so on www.hill112,.com
Albert Figg, who raised the money fro the memorial was proud today to see
such a great group of old comrades together in front of the Churchill that
is known locally as "Alberts tank"
