Running the 11x20 tires (duals in rears) on the turbo diesel powered
M35, carrying an S-280 weighing 2500 lbs,
at an average highway speed of 55-59MPH (equivalent to 51-56MPH with
9.00X20's), I got 6.96 MPG on a 114 mile drive.
at an average highway speed of 50-55MPH (equivalent to 46-51MPH with
9.00X20's), I got 8.11 MPG on a 114 mile drive.
The decrease from the previous 8MPG was no doubt due to the
ever-increasing wind load presented by the S-280 shelter. Who would
think that 5MPH would make that much difference. but it did.
The trip was from Dallas TX to longview TX and back.
The event was a TXSG mission to secure the area and control civillian
ingress, parking, safety, and egress, at the Gregg County Airport, for
the Great Texas Balloon Race.
