jeffery, you are right on the money. however the issue of the fuel
compensator is often misunderstood. there is a belief that bypassing it
will make the engine run better. well, yes it will make it have more
power, but this has nothing to do with the compensator not working
correctly in the first place. when the compensator is bypassed, it has
the same effect as turning up the fuel rate quite a bit. you are putting
the fuel slide in the max fuel position!! the problem with this is that
you have a 30+ year old engine that who knows who may have already
fiddled with the settings. so, if you already have a strong running
truck and you bypass it the fuel rate may be way up in the "melt the
pistons" range. any fuel work should begin with a pyrometer.
