There was an interesting feature just last Saturday on Her Majesties
Broadcasting Service ( older readers may still refer to it as 2LO but
nowadays its the BBC- or Betty's Broadcasting Corp) about the use of amateur
groups in disaster assistance - it featured on the Radio Hams jumping into
the fray to assist, very ably, with communications on 11th Sept, when much
of the areas communications had been wiped out by the attacks.
When the 1987 hurricane hit the UK I spent the whole of the next day
dragging trees off the roads with my GMC CCKW, in the Sevenoaks area which
took the worst of the storm. I had a letter from the parish council thanking
me for my efforts.
