Please note that the military in their TMs, operators manuals and safety bulletins specifically warns do NOT leave the vehicles in gear.
Why? Because if it is in gear and rolls, due to gravity, or due to being struck by another vehicle....the engine will start, and it will drive away, over or through whatever, or whoever, is in its path.
The compression-ignition engine in the Multifuel trucks does not require electricity to run...and to start them only requires the engine turn.
Won't happen to you? Only has to once.
Once when cash was tight and the batteries on one of mine were weak I would part it on a slight slope in my driveway. It only had to roll 5 feet or so, pop the clutch and she was off and running.....rolled so slowly one could easily have stepped up on it while moving, thats how easily they start.
