Probably has an internal exciter and regulator.

If you are concerned, connect a 1 ohm 200 watt resistor inline
with the + lead to the terminal, and fire it up.

Check the alternator voltage at the + terminal.

The alternator current will be limited severely by this.

If there is a problem, it may overcharge the battery or cook the
resistor, but save the humvee. (abnormal)

If no problem, it may show that the battery is not being charged
well, due to the voltage loss through the resistor. (normal)

If alternator volts = 26.5-28V all is well, remove the resistor
and proceed with the connection.
