In WW2, the deuce was also commonly refered to as a Jimmy
for GMC truck. Though not all the US Army trucks were Jimmy's
99.something% were. Only a few Stude's snuck in at the beginning
and none of the IHCs

common nick name for the 2 1/2 ton cargo trucks. I have yet to find a
wartime reference to the truck as a "Deuce & 1/2". Most were called a "6 by
6" or "6 by" or most common, 2 1/2 ton . Solders of that time usually
referred to vehicles by their tonnage rating, ie. "four ton wrecker" for a
Diamond T wrecker.
