Dick and List,
No I do not have it backwards and you proved it without realizing
it. If I have it backwards then I have screwed up a lot of engines in my
life as I have been running Diesels since I was 15 years old. I hired out
as a Locomotive Fireman for Penn Central in 1971 and was promoted
Locomotive Engineer on March 9th, 1974. I have been driving trucks of all
kinds part time from 1972 and full time since 1988.Yes the limit is 900
before the turbine and 1200 after the turbine. You see 900 is the actual
limit for the engine but most manufacturers mount the pyrometer sensor on
the discharge side IE: after the turbocharger so you raise the limit to
1200 F to allow for the cooling effect the turbo has on the exhaust gas as
it passes through the turbo. My new 2004 Mack Granite model truck has the
new technology ASET engine and it's limits are lower. But the Pyrometer
sensor is still mounted after the turbo about 6 inches from it. I will have
pictures of the installation tomorrow night.
No offence Dick but if I have it wrong so do Mack, Cummins,
Detroit,Caterpillar, and a whole host of Diesel engine builders.
