Thanks to everyone on their advice on my hard starting question on my M880. I think the manifold is getting too hot causing the carburetor to vapor lock. I know the intake gaskets I installed were the variety that allowed the exhaust gas to circulate in the manifold s opposed to the other variety available that blocks this flow(it had been originally equipped with these gaskets and operated in New York while on duty and in Pennsylvania after retirement. I live in Kansas and rarely see the extreme cold weather normal for these states. However short of yanking that big hunk of metal off of my engine just to replace the gaskets, could I use a lower temp thermostat(TM calls for a 195 degree ) and have things lower a bit in temperature? I see according to the partsamerica.com website that there is as low as a 160 degree thermostat available for these. It has actually gotten hot enough to cause the paint to peel on the manifold(temp guage always shows dead center and no higher)
Thanks,
Bob
